Icelandair is an airline and a customer oriented travel service company serving destinations in Europe and North America via our hub in Iceland. Icelandair is one of the world's longest-established airlines and can trace its history back to 1937.

The company is 100% privately owned by about 5000 Icelandic shareholders‚ and is the largest private company in Iceland‚ employing over 2000 people. Icelandair has been a member of IATA since 1950‚ AEA since 1957 and the International Flight Safety Foundation since 1966.

In addition to being an international passenger airline‚ Icelandair is a group of flight and travel service companies which form the foundation of the Icelandic tourist industry.

Icelandair's Operation:

Iceland's geographical location on the shortest flight route across the North Atlantic enables Icelandair to service three main markets: The home market in Iceland‚ the tourist and business market to Iceland‚ and the vast North-Atlantic market between Europe and USA.

Icelandair has concluded interline agreements with major airlines serving Bangkok‚ and provided convenient flight connections to Reykjavik via Amsterdam‚ Copenhagen‚ Frankfurt‚ London‚ Paris and Stockholm.

Over the last few years the number of passengers in international flight has increased enormously. During the year 2001‚ more than 1.3 million passengers travelled with Icelandair to our scheduled destinations on both sides of the Atlantic‚ shown above on our route map.
