Icelandairs first concern is the safety and comfort of our passengers. Long periods in the air‚ and travelling through several time zones
in a pressurized cabin can affect sleep patterns, digestion‚ and circulation. Clotting of blood in the lower legs is known as deep venous thrombosis (DVT)‚
also known as "travellers thrombosis". Passengers flying between Europe and North America are required to change planes en route at our hub at Keflavik International airport.
One of the benefits is the opportunity for passengers to stretch out and do relevant exercises on the ground at a normal altitude pressure. This minimizes the time
you have to sit still on the plane and therefore reduces the possibility of DVT. Icelandair also provides tips for passengers to avoid the possibility of DVT such as
wearing loose-fitting clothes‚ eating light on board, drinking more water on board to re-hydrate yourself‚ relaxing in flight by tuning into our special music channel no. 10‚
which we offer specially created series of sound pictures and suggestions to enhance physical and mental relaxation on board‚ as well as tips for onboard exercises.
